Ian Candy graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London with a BSc in Geography before carrying out an MRes in Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Reading. Ian's PhD studies were based at the Postgraduate Research Institute for Sedimentology (University of Reading) and were based around the theme of "Climate change and landform development in southern Spain: U-series dating of calcretes". This research involved the use of a range of techniques including field and laboratory sedimentology, micromorphology of soil profiles and carbonate deposits as well as the use of stable (O and C) and radiogenic (U and Th) isotopes in understanding past environments and the timing of carbonate deposition. After his PhD, Ian began his postdoctoral studies at Royal Holloway working on the Leverhulme funded "Ancient Human Occupation of Britain" project. This research used the skills developed during Ian's PhD to understand the landscape, environments and timing of periods of human occupation in Britain. Ian worked as a lecturer in Physical Geography in the Department of Geography, Loughborough University from February 2005 to August 2006 and was appointed lecturer in Physical Geography at Royal Hollowayin September 2006
