I am Lecturer in Human Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London. I was also a Visiting Professor at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne during the 2008-09 academic year, and I still teach there as invited lecturer.
I studied urban planning and urban design at the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey (undergraduate) and the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia (postgraduate). I obtained my PhD in urban planning from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2003. Before coming to Royal Holloway in 2006, I was a postdoctoral research fellow in human geography at the Open University.
My research interests include urban theory, theories of space and politics, and hospitality and politics of alterity. I am a member of the department’s Social and Cultural Geography Research Group.
