The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded funding to a competition to find the best designed British Sari, being run by Bridging Arts. The British Sari Story was inspired by a project on the Patois of Pattern in the Royal Holloway Geography Department created by the artist Helen Scalway with the support of a small grant in the creative arts from the AHRC.
Helen Scalway is currently a postdoctoral researcher on a major collaborative research project on textiles, pattern and cultural interchange between Britain and South Asia involving researchers at Royal Holloway and the Victoria and Albert Museum. The project is part of the research of the Social and Cultural Geography Group at Royal Holloway.
