2009 ‘Moving Patterns’ is an exhibition of visual research work from the Geography Department’s major AHRC funded project, ‘Fashioning Diaspora Space’, in collaboration with the V&A. It will be at the Royal Geographical Society, London, from May 7th - May 21st 2009. I am also blogging on the V&A’s website in relation to this.
This show has links to an earlier one. In 2007-8 I was artist advisor on a Heritage Lottery funded project, the British Sari Story, a competition seeking new British sari design to reflect the experience of British Asians today, sixty years on from Independence. The competition was launched by an arts consultancy, ‘Bridging Arts’. The winning designs were showcased at an exhibition of contemporary ’British’ saris at Brent Museum in autumn 2007, along with the original drawings for ‘A Patois of Pattern’, which triggered the project. The exhibition has since been touring the UK See www.bridging-arts.com/ for more information.
