PhD studentships, Physical Geography/Quaternary Science 2011

The Centre for Developing Areas Research (CEDAR) brings together one of the largest groups of academic geographers in the United Kingdom researching the human and environmental geographies of Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. The breadth of its members’ research places it in an ideal position to contribute to theoretical and policy debates on key challenges facing those parts of the world in the early 21st century.
Our research is focused around four main themes:
Natural resource management
Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D)
Gender
Global justice
There are currently about twenty-five PhD students in CEDAR. CEDAR staff welcome enquiries regarding PhD applications in their areas of specialism. There is funding available for well-qualified students.
CEDAR staff are greatly involved in the MSc Practising Sustainable Development, while some also contribute to the MA Cultural Geography (Research) and MSc Sustainability and Management.
CEDAR staff and research students are actively involved in collaborative research with NGOs, private sector partners, government departments and multilateral institutions, as well as academic colleagues elsewhere in the UK and overseas. CEDAR members contribute to the activities of the Centre for Research into Sustainability (CRIS) at RHUL.
