Funding for postgraduate study in 2008-9

Overseas Studentships: We are currently offering three awards for overseas students to pursue PhD studies in the Department. These are worth £5,000 per annum (and, subject to confirmation,  up to £8,000). These studentships may be held concurrently with other sources of external funding where available. Candidates will be expected to apply for the U.K.-based ORSAS funding scheme which pays the overseas portion of all fees.

ESRC quota studentships (covering UK/EU fees and full maintenance, number to be confirmed) are now available in the Royal Holloway Geography Department for students starting September 2008 (on either a 1+3 or a +3 basis).

Five Royal Holloway studentships, in the form of one Thomas Holloway PhD studentship (covering UK/EU fees and a £6000 annual bursary), plus four PhD awards (covering UK/EU fees) are also available for doctoral research students starting in September 2008.

Five NERC Masters studentships are available to support applicants to the MSc Programme in Quaternary Science.

Masters studentships (covering UK/EU fees) are available for applicants to the MA in Cultural Geography and the MSc in Practising Sustainable Development.

The department can nominate Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for our Masters schemes. They pay full fees and £9000 maintenance allowance for the one year of the Masters scheme. They are available to citizens of Commonwealth countries.

UK and EU students are also eligible to apply for ESRC competition studentships (on both a 1+3 and +3 basis), AHRC research studentships, and ESRC-NERC interdisciplinary studentships, for all of which the Department is fully recognised. Details of further Collaborative (‘CASE’) Studentships may also be available in 2008.

Overseas students are encouraged to apply for ORSAS awards through the Department, and further scholarships for overseas students may also be available.
